☕️ First Slip

A tightly organized single mom, a free-spirited mother, a teenage daughter, a charming ski instructor, and a matchmaking scheme at a cozy Christmas ski resort. ‘Tis the Season for Set Up brings together opposites, forced proximity, and two generations of romance, all wrapped in a festive mountain setting.

🤩 What Went Down Smooth

The lodge is instantly inviting, and the cozy surroundings do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to creating that Christmas feeling. I also really liked the sweet, healthy relationship between Lexi and her teenage daughter, Piper. Barbara Niven brings plenty of personality to June, whose tendency to make everything about herself had me laughing more than once.

The escape room sequence was another highlight. It gave the story a burst of energy just when I needed one.

🫤 What Left a Bitter Aftertaste

I struggled to connect with Lexi. She’s so rigid and tightly wound that I found it hard to get invested in her romance. But honestly, everyone seems a little too eager to tell her she’s boring and force her out of her comfort zone. Being organized isn’t a character flaw, people!

Ridge is charming, but I’m not entirely convinced he’s as reliable as he should be. I found myself understanding his father’s reservations. And for a woman who’s so cautious, Lexi seems surprisingly comfortable confiding in someone she barely knows.

The pacing also drags in places. I caught myself reaching for my phone more than once. Plus, are we really supposed to believe the ski slopes are practically empty during Christmas season? And how many Christmas trees does one lodge need?

🔄 Worth a Refill?

‘Tis the Season for Set Up has the cozy setting, family dynamics, and festive charm you’d expect from Hallmark. But while the older generation’s matchmaking provides some fun moments, the central romance didn’t quite win me over. A pleasant holiday watch if you’re in the mood for a snowy escape, but not one I’d rush to revisit.
